Have you ever thought to yourself I know how to burn those calories fast and lose that extra body fat? Well you are definitely not alone. Most of us have had the same thoughts so we join up to a 24 hour gym and stock up on the latest fat loss diet shakes or programs.
Day one, all excited and off to the gym feeling good with our I can do this on my own attitude. Look at all the equipment and start on the treadmill, maybe pick up some dumbbells or a kettlebell and think I am not sure what to do with these but it will be fun working it out.
Day 2, 3……….. Excitement has faded and you are no longer motivated to get yourself to the gym 🙁 It is getting boring going to the gym alone doing the few exercises that you know. Next thing you know your gym membership is up and you only used it 3 or 4 times. Not only have you not lost any body fat but have gained some extra along the way. Sound familiar?
Time to try something different…..
Group training can be a great way to achieve your health/fitness and fat loss goals while actually enjoying going to the gym and even making new friends. When you workout in a group it helps keep you accountable and also gives you variety and provides structure. It is great for high energy either first thing in the morning or after a long day at work. The energy of the group is contagious and helps lift your own energy.
A group training session is usually a circuit style doing a variety of exercises for a short period of time before moving on to the next exercise or part of the circuit. A good group training session will incorporate both strength training and cardio in one workout.
You are likely to workout longer in a group as it is easy to just stop or give up on your own but if you are training in a group you are less likely to give up in front of the other group members which means you will be burning more calories and increasing fat loss.
👪Here are five more reasons that group training is the way to go to achieve your health, fitness and fat loss goals:
Be motivated and inspired
Helps you to gain focus and increase your effort as you are working out with others and it is natural to want to keep up with the group.
The best way to motivate yourself to push through that last rep is by having the group to cheer you on. It is so much easier to be motivated in a group training session to move faster or lift a bit heavier, and to be inspired to push a bit harder than working on your own.
Hold yourself Accountable
We all know the hardest part is getting yourself to the gym. When you are booked in for a group training session and decide to cancel at the last minute it is highly likely you will get charged a fee for cancelling late or for not showing up.
Prevent injury with proper technique
One of the most valuable parts of a group training session is the coach/coaches who are there to help you with proper warm up and cool down exercises. They also demonstrate how to do each exercise with the proper technique. Also if you need that extra bit of help with your form the coach is there to guide you.
Add variety to your workout
Doing the same exercise over and over again can get boring and may even hinder your progress or cause you to plateau. Group training is an easy way to switch things up, different coaches have different training styles which also provides variety.
Group training takes the guesswork out of coming up with your own workout. All you have to do is show up and enjoy working out burning calories in a community atmosphere.
Be part of a team or community of like minded people
This is so beneficial as you have the support from other people who are likely to be on a similar journey as you. Whether that be increased health and wellness, fitness, strength and endurance or fat loss. There will be someone who understands and has your back.
In summary, why is working out in a group so good?
When it comes to fitness, working out in a group environment boosts motivation, which in turn burns more calories and makes exercise so much more social and fun.
Being coached in a group also provides more structure to your workout and holds you accountable to keep your intensity up while improving your technique which help to increase fat loss.
